JOB TITLE: Math Teacher

SALARY: Teacher Salary Schedule

REPORTS TO:  Site Administrator

Start Date: 24/25 School Year

LOCATION: Tuluksak

No. DAYS: 172 Days

 

JOB PURPOSE: To teach Math to students in 7th-12th grade

 

Role:

Classroom teachers create a flexible and supportive education program and class environment favorable to learning and personal growth. The teacher provides instruction at an appropriate grade level while establishing an effective rapport with students as well as parents and staff members. In accordance with each student’s ability, teachers motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good educational foundation. The teacher reports to and is evaluated by the site principal.
 
This position requires a valid Alaska educator certificate. The number of work days is based upon the AEA negotiated pay scale. Information on the pay scale can be found online on our website. This position’s grade level, content area taught, and work site may change dependent upon student enrollment and district staffing needs.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must possess Minimum a Bachelor’s degree and type A certification.  Preferred endorsement in Math .  
  2. State of Alaska teaching endorsement.

  1. A valid Alaska initial, professional, or master teaching certificate.
  2. Evidence of content knowledge shown by:
    1. a posted degree in the content area of this position; or
    2. a posted minor in the content area of this position; or
    3. passing Praxis Subject Assessments scores (formerly Praxis II) in the content area of this position; or
    4. a certificate endorsement in the content area of this position

    2. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and__in harmony with the goals__establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  3. Teaches students with respect for their individual and cultural characteristics.
  4. Knows the teacher's content area and how to teach it.
    1. Develops lesson plans and instructional material and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils.
    2. Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
    3. Has the ability to use current technology to enhance instruction.
    4. Has the ability to use technology for record-keeping and research.
    5. Applies knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program.
  5. Facilitates, monitors, and assesses student learning.
    1. Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
    2. Identifies pupil needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans.
  6. Creates and maintains a learning environment in which all students are actively engaged and contributing members.
    1. Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the student.
    2. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
    3. Creates an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, interest centers, and exhibits of student's work.
    4. Supervises student environment, students, and volunteers.
  7. Works as a partner with parents, families, and the community.
    1. Communicates regularly with parents by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
  8. Participates in and contributes to the teaching profession.
  • Standard 4: Skillful Instructional Strategists who:
  • Familiar with Alaska state standards, Danielson educator evaluation protocols, and current research on best practice. 
  • Strong subject matter knowledge in the three genres of writing, the writing process, the technical nature of vocabulary, reading comprehension strategies, text structure, language conventions and sentence structure, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to assure implementation of the District adopted Math programs.
  • Serve on the school Leadership Team to assist in the development of school level and district level improvement planning.
  • Attend state trainings as appropriate.
  • Participate in the planning and delivery of In-Service Meetings for Professional Development.

 

Education and/or Experience: BA or higher 

 

Language Skills:  Ability to read and interpret documents such as educational research papers, program teaching guides, and test results. Ability to communicate in a positive, non-threatening manner which facilitates effective program implementation with district staff. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before supervisors and district employees.  

 

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to analyze and interpret test data. 

 

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Computer Skills and Abilities:  Requires knowledge and ability to operate a variety of software on computers.  Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel required. 

 

Other Skills and Abilities:  Ability to develop effective working relationships with Board of Education, superintendent, staff and community.  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.  Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment.

While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; operate a computer; and reach with hands and arms. This position frequently requires non-stop typing on the computer.  This position requires the individual to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and to interact with the public and other workers.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, such as tables, office and meeting supplies.  This position occasionally requires employee to work extended or irregular hours   Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and depth perception.  Some travel is required as part of the job.
