JOB TITLE:                 Head Cook                                   

REPORTS TO:             Principal and Food & Services Director/Coordinator                 

LOCATION:                Yupiit School District                                                      

                                     

 

JOB PURPOSE:  In the performance of his/her duties, the Head Cook is directly responsible to the Principal and Food Service Director.

           

Duties, Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  1. Demonstrates positive attitude in working with children.
  2. Accepts direction from the Principal and Food Service Director.
  3. Head Cook responsible in preparation of a school breakfast program.
  4. Head Cook resposible in preparation of a school lunch program.
  5. Aids in the necessary food preparation to meet the daily servicing schedule.
  6. Serves food to the students and staff to meet the daily serving schedule.
  7. Sets up and clean the necessary equipment which is used in the lunch service.
  8. Performs cleaning and laundry as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

 

  1. Past experience in cafeteria or restaurant work.
  2. Experience in school preferred.
  3. Experience in working with children preferred.
  4. High School diploma or GED

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Requires decision-making ability and the ability to work independently. Requires ability to plan, schedule, and prioritize work.

 

  1. Requires ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication.

 

  1. Requires willingness to perform various job-related duties as situations require, a strong sense of teamwork, and ability to work cooperatively with others.

 

  1. Requires ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements, Board of Education practices, Alaska State Laws, and Department of Education and Early Development regulations.

 

Education and/or Experience:  High School diploma or GED

 

Language Skills:  Ability to read and interpret documents such as software operating and training instructions, and technical procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before supervisors and district employees.  Ability to speak Yupik preferred.

 

Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts

 

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Computer Skills and Abilities:  Requires knowledge and ability to operate a variety of software on computers.  Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and scanning.

 

Other Skills and Abilities:  Ability to develop effective working relationships with the principal, staff, students, parents, and community.   Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.  Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment.

While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; operate a computer; and reach with hands and arms. This position frequently requires non-stop typing on the computer.  This position requires the individual to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and to interact with the public and other workers.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, such as tables, office and meeting supplies.  This position may occasionally require employee to work extended or irregular hours   Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and depth perception.  Some travel is required as part of the job.
