JOB TITLE: Summer Maintenance Worker SALARY: $20.16 per hour

REPORTS TO: Maintenance Director HRS: 8 hr./day

LOCATION: Akiachak, Tuluksak, & Akiak, AK No. DAYS: Approximately 75

JOB PURPOSE: To perform various maintenance activities such as carpentry, plumbing, painting, installing windows and doors, replacing appliances, flooring and other related duties relative to maintaining school buildings and employee housing.

Duties, Responsibilities and Accountabilities

1. Performs general maintenance duties including painting, carpentry and minor mechanical.

2. General maintenance functions include operating minor hand tools, drills, saws, shovels, rakes. Occasional use of ladder or scaffold.

3. Follow instructions from the Maintenance Director on various labor duties such as staging materials, keeping work sites organized and secure.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

? Must be 18 years of age.

 

? Requires decision-making ability and the ability to work productively and independently with little to no supervision.

 

? Requires ability to plan, schedule, and prioritize work to consistently meet deadlines.

 

? Ability to work safely and provide a safe, clean worksite.

 

? Ability to show up on time and ready to work.

 

? Requires interpersonal skills to courteously and effectively assist individuals on the telephone or in person and to maintain good relations. Requires personal presence and appearance to appropriately act as a representative of the School District. Requires ability to communicate with a variety of people to gather information or to communicate information to others.

 

? Requires ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication.

 

? Require ability to operate computers.

 

? Requires willingness to perform various job-related duties as situations require, a strong sense of teamwork, and ability to work cooperatively with others.

Education and/or Experience: Maintenance and/or construction skills to be able to work independently and efficiently.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as menu’s, appliance operation manuals, paint directions, etc. Ability to write routine correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before supervisors and district employees. Ability to speak Yupik preferred.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as inventory, lumber measurements and ability to provide accurate information.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to develop effective working relationships with supervisor, co-workers, vendors, staff, and community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment.

While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; operate a computer; and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the individual to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and to interact with the public and other workers. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and very occasionally more than 100 pounds, such as lumber, appliances, and other maintenance related items. This position occasionally requires employee to work extended or irregular hours Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and depth perception. Some travel is required as part of the job. Employee must hold current Alaska Driver’s license and be able to drive.
